Content mapping is the second phase of your content audit and focuses on aligning your existing content with the content your end users and department needs as established through your information architecture (IA). This phase should be tackled after you have conducted user research, created your IA site map, and have a clear understanding of your project requirements.
Where does your old content fit into the new information architecture?
- Using your content audit and your new information architecture, determine where your existing content from your audit will fit into the new IA site structure using the section numbers from the new information architecture site map. It's helpful to just create a new IA column in your completed content audit where you can note where your existing content fits in the site structure.
Within your content audit, you can add a new column to indicate where each page sits within your site map. In this example, the Getting Started with Drupal page is 1.1 on the corresponding information architecture site map.
What content needs to be developed?
- Based on your old content and the new information architecture, determine what content is missing and will need to be created to complete your new website. This can be added as a new tab in your content audit.
