Digital Platform August 2018 (18.08) Update

Version 18.08 of the UO Communications web platform has been released (tagged 7.x-18.08) with the following changes.

Feature Updates

UO Cosmic Theme (7.x-18.08)

  • Updated grid elements to use new code utilizing CSS flexbox. These new grids should behave very similarly to the old grids, but will allow for more enhancements in the future and a much more mantainable codebase.

UO Vanilla Profile (7119)

  • Removed automatic photo gallery block from articles.
  • Users can now search for words with only 2 characters in length, instead of the previous requirement of 3 or more characters.
  • Sites now use CDN-with Asset upgrades as the default asset source for Web Design Framework assets.
  • The Underline button has been removed since it should be avoided due to UX issues (being confused with links and such)
  • The Paste from Word button has been removed since the button itself no longer offers functionality. The same effect is achieved now by simply pressing ctrl(cmd)+V to paste.
  • Site editors can now see the user report view to keep track of site users
  • Site managers can now administer URL aliases

Bug Fixes

UO Cosmic Theme (7.x-18.08)

  • Fixed bug where responsive tables displayed unnecessary whitespace above them on mobile viewports
  • Fixed bug where Hero envelopes with video backgrounds would try to copy the background and create a 404-error causing link.

UO Edit Suite (7.x-18.08)

  • Fixed issue where list styles would be removed when pasting from word

Important Notes

There are significant changes to the underlying grid code in this release. While the changes to the grid component have many improvements moving forward, they may cause some unusual or unwanted effects in edge cases with older content. Make sure to check grids you use on your site to ensure that your grids still display in a desireable way. The responsive breakpoints will have shifted on all grids, which is by design. We have tried to keep as much consistency with old design and functionality as possible.
